The original layout of the apartment was dark due to its depth and longitudinal division and unnecessarily lengthened it. We decided to disrupt this situation and replaced the longitudinal division with a transverse one. We opened the main living area to the terrace for the entire width of the apartment in the first plan. In the second plan, we placed the kitchen and the bedroom, which share the same view of the terrace through the living area.
We left the hygiene and toilet in the original place. We perceived the entire space from the terrace as a scene with functional layers, the first part is a stage, a living area with a work area. The second scene is the kitchen and the bedroom, which are divided by a closet-partition, and the last layer is the entrance area and hygiene. We divide these transverse layers with heavy curtains, which create views between the scenes of the apartment.
Each of these corners has its own specific spatial elements. We accent the kitchen with a colorful kitchen counter. Legs assembled from proto-shapes resemble a historicizing dining table. We perceive this act as transforming an aesthetic table into a functional counter. In the bedroom, we accentuate the space with a bed with a prominent semicircular headboard and prominent legs.
The entire apartment is a composed scene of objects in different layers, which changes due to the all-day process of being in the space. The apartment was designed for a young, creative couple, a musician and a cameraman, who live partly in Prague and partly in Bratislava.
